Task Details: Grameen Bank (GB) has reversed conventional banking practice by removing the need for collateral and created a banking system based on mutual trust and creativity. GB provides credit to the poorest of the poor in rural Bangladesh, without any collateral. At GB, credit is a cost-effective weapon to fight poverty. Professor Muhammad Yunus, the founder of “Grameen Bank” reasoned that if financial resources can be made available to the poor people on terms and conditions that are appropriate and reasonable, “these millions of small people with their millions of small pursuits can add up to create the biggest development wonder.”

Students will research and produce a report that: o Discusses the history of and the reasons for establishing Grameen Bank, with a brief outline of their structure. Discuss about Muhammad Yunus. o Outlines regulation that should be implemented by Grameen. o Describes how Grameen Bank obtain their funds, and whether subsidies are granted. o Details the lending policies to be introduced by Grameen Bank, including likely borrowers, loan limits and interest rates. o Assesses likely impacts (economic, cultural and psychological), including criticisms and drawbacks. o Discuss obstacles and limitations Grameen Bank has been facing, Explain their success path.
