Collective bargaining- Well, collective bargaining is a process between two companies where they can decide a final decision by pointing out their own views from both sides. Collective bargaining is a best way to get a perfect decision because no party is going to get defeated by other party. Collective bargaining requires a lot of discussions and fair points. It usually occurs among companies and its employees (Vaibhav V, n.d.). From the case of Archibald Firefighters’ Arbitration, we can see that same situation is happening as firefighters want to get some benefits due to their tough job and they want to get their pay increased as well as some more benefits after their retirement. At the same time, the city itself is going through some losses and because of it mayor is not able to fully accomplish their workers’ wish, however he was in dilemma as he can not totally refuse their pay raise appeal because it is the time of elections and he does not want to loss in elections as well as he is also considering that firefighter who are actually asking for pay increase are an important part for safety of a city or country. So, for both parties in this case collective bargaining can be a best option to make a final decision. For collective bargaining, both parties should be fully prepared with their points ad negotiation as well as they should have clear topic to discuss. For example, collective bargaining usually has matters related to salaries, benefits, layoff, insurance, time off as so on. In the preparation step both parties should know who is playing for their side and who can be in opposite side. In this case, it can be a co-operative bargaining if both parties listen each other carefully but on the other hand it can be a destructive discussion when both parties have direct intentions to not listen opposite party and do not agree on anything.
