Identify and describe 2-3 of the most important reasons you want to attend pharmacy school at Oregon State. Your essay must be specific, detailed, and differ significantly from your PharmCAS personal statement. With a passion to be a pharmacist when I was young, I had a clear understanding for what I am going to do for my journey. There were more than one hundred pharmacy schools in the United States, but I ended up choosing Oregon State to start my journey. There is no decision without reasons. I picked Oregon State University for three important reasons. Firstly, the school matched my education goals. Secondly, it offers the opportunity to gain real on-hand experience in laboratories and work-life balance. And finally, the state is ranked one of the top states in pharmacy schools which can help me get higher chances for job. 1. The ideal of studying in Oregon appeared in my mind at an occasional conversation between my uncle and dad. They talked about a Vietnamese politician who earned a master degree at Oregon State. Now he is in charge in an important position in Vietnam. His successful career inspired me to do a research in schools in Oregon. I had my future all planned out. My goal was that I would like to apply my undergraduate program in a college that had pharmacy school. In addition, after I finish pre-pharmacy courses, I will just transition into the pharmacy program at the same college. English is not my native language, so I wanted to find a school which offer limited size of the Pharm.D. program so that I can build strong connection with the professors, Additionally, I like quiet place in order to focus on my learning, and OSU fits my purpose. OSU is a big school that is located in a small city. This provides me a quiet space to stay focus on my education without distraction from other factors. I like the program setting where I can spend two years building strong foundation and get needed information in order to apply my skills in pharmacy practice at Oregon Health & Science University for the next two years. 2. I spent first years to complete pre-requisite courses and got valuable experiences. I had a chance to work on cadaver and test DNA to identify the genotype of the member in the family. I was not scared when working with a real body. I feel interested to learn about nerves, muscles, brains, and so on. Those practiced me how to deal with bodies in the future. Beside the experiences I earned, I also had a rough time dealing with stress while I was in undergraduate. This taught me how to develop and manage my time effectively to balance between work and life. The university is located near a food chain with different types of food from different countries at Monroe street. When I felt stressed out, I often walked there with my friends to have some food. It was very convenient to discuss problems that we had in classes while walking without using cars. Everything is located near campus, so I could save my time more for study and have some activities during my break time. Course work in pharmacy program is very condensed, so time management is very important. I balanced my work and life based on academic and the environment surrounding the campus. 3. During my deeply research about OSU, I was impressed with the data of graduation rate in this program. The percentage on the performance and success of OSU doctor pharmacy students is very high, about 90 percent or above. In addition the rate of students who pass the licensure examinations on the first attempt was in a range of 80 to 96 percent. Those percentages imply that OSU provides excellent professional education for students in order to produce pharmacists who are independent scientists dedicated to providing a better quality of life. This provides me a broad view of OSU where I can gain valuable knowledge and open a door for me in order to increase the job opportunity.
