COMM5105 Workplace Communication WORK PLAN FOR THE REPORT ON TOPIC- HOW CAN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND WELL- BEING OF INDIVIDUALS AND STRENGTHEN COMMUNITIES IN NOVA SCOTIA Statement of Problem Describe the existing lack of outdoor activities and their potential adverse effects on Nova Scotians’ health and well being as individuals and as a community. According to Canadian Community Health Survey, 61% of Nova scotia population is either overweight or obese (Canadian Community Health Survey. (2007-2012). Provincial ‘Share’ file for NS.) Statement of Purpose The primary intention of this research is to analyze how outdoor activities may enhance one’s physical, mental and social well-being and diminish stress. Secondarily, this study focuses on outdoor activities commonly practiced by Nova Scotians and their role in welfare of communities and society. Research Strategy The links between outdoor leisure health and community development in published academic research papers, studies, social media, policy documents, programs and reports, shall be studied. Tentative Outline 1. What are the advantages of outdoor activities on personal health? Physical health Mental health Social benefits 2. How the outdoor activities strengthen the community bonds? 3. Supporting case studies and previous research activities of Nova Scotia. 4. What are the barriers and challenges in achieving physical mental and social health along with societal integration? 5. What are the possible recommendations and strategies? 6. Summarize the key findings. Spring -Summer 2023 COMM 5105 -1 Workplace Communication Cape Breton University Team Research Report Project Workplan: 5 points Report: 15 points Overview: The goal is to conduct secondary research and write a formal report on a Healthcare or Business themed topic as a team . The teams (groups) will apply the 3×3 Writing Process , as discussed on pages 277 and 278 in Chapter 11 of the textbook, throughout the development of writing the report. Work Plans will be submitted between 1 week to 2 weeks before the final report deadline date. See page 281 in the textbook and the class Moodle Template section for Work Plan template. Details: • The r esearch report will be 8 -10 pages single -spaced typed in Times New Roman font – 12point. • Include cover page and bibliography or reference page in APA citation format. (Sample APA Citation pages are located in Appendix A -1 to A -4 at the back of the textbook) • Students will demonstrate the skills needed to do secondary research, organize, document, and present a report. • The Workplan will be 1-2 pages single -spaced typed in Times New Roman font. • The report will reflect on a scenario or case study consisting of a problem and a number of possible solutions.
