Critical Review The Department of Community and Justice (DCJ) is responsible for various services and programs that support vulnerable people and families, including those affected by domestic and family violence. My placement focuses on issues the DCJ deals with that are projected to child protection prestation team, out-of-home care, foster care, adoption, community support, and justice services (Newton, 2020). My team that I’m allocated with is caseworkers child protection our role is budling a relationship with children and find justice help keep children safe and support them to reach their potential. They do this by working directly with children, their parents, and extended networks. The DCJ works to prevent and respond to domestic and family violence and to support victims and survivors. The department provides various services and programs, including crisis accommodation, support and counseling, and financial assistance. It also works with various partners to provide support and services to those affected by domestic and family violence (Barker & Taylor, 2022). These partners include state and territory governments, non-government organizations, and the private sector. Children have formed the highest number of victims who have been affected by practices that negatively affect the community since they cannot defend themselves.  Ferguson’s Critical Best Practice (CBP) perspective             Ferguson’s Critical Best Practice (CBP) perspective is based on the Department of Community and Justice in Australia. Several critical thinkers, including Marx, Gramsci, Foucault, and Derrida, informed the CBP perspective. The CBP perspective concerns how power is exercised and reproduced in society and how the criminal justice system functions to maintain social inequalities (Barker & Taylor, 2022). There is more emphasis that are placed on how the media represent crime and criminals. It is also concerned with how the public perceives crime and criminals. The CBP discusses how the justice system responds to crime and how punishment is used to control and discipline people. Therefore, CBP is essential in determining how children are raised within society and how the law can protect them from being mistreated (Newton, 2020). On the other hand, CBP is being faced with negative critics due to its low efficiency in terms of performance and how they are enforcing the law. The critical best practice (CBP) perspective of the Department of Community and Justice (DJCJ) is that it lacks transparency and accountability in its decision-making processes (Barker & Taylor, 2022). This has led to a lack of confidence in the department and its ability to deliver services effectively. Experience 1, while working with DCJ A school referred a child aged 12 years old to DCJ to seek help with abuse and neglect from the parents, as they appeared not to be taking care of them and were unable to keep up with school attendance. The Rush report was transferred to the case worker preservation team to help the child and the family. The case worker conducted a meeting to disclose the best approach to helping the family. During the meeting, the case worker and the managers highlighted the theory of psychosocial development and applied interventions that helped the family. A problem-solving process was outlined during the meeting. We identified the problem that was reported and the evidence that has been applied to support the decision that will be made, and then outlined the best way to solve the problem and what the next steps are working towards achieving the goal. According to Ferguson (2003), evidence-based practise within critical decision-making social work practise, will aid in the development of knowledge about social work and social care. This aids in making the best decisions by committing explicitly to investigating the felt experience of best practise. Experience 2, During my placement, I discovered System Theory, as DCJ is run on a system. 3 children under 5 years old are placed with a carer due to their parents’ use of ice and other drugs that have impacted the children since their birth. DCJ was looking for long-term placement for the children, and their grandmother agreed to be their long-term caregiver under the guardianship act. Due to the grandmother’s age and ability to care for 3 children, she was unsuccessful according to the DCJ system. This situation has impacted the children because of the system that DCJ runs. But the case worker put in an intervention that could help both the children and their grandmother.  An evidence-informed approach that supported the caseworkers was used to help the family influence change as it helps in building lifelong connections for the children. The system fails to begin to do justice to the children. The Need to Practice in a Culturally Sensitive Manner It is important to be culturally sensitive to work effectively with Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders. This includes understanding and respecting the different cultures and traditions of these groups. It is also important to be aware of the unique needs of children from these backgrounds (Newton, 2020). There are several reasons why it is important to practice culturally sensitive when working with Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders. First, it is important to respect these groups’ different cultures and traditions. Second, it is important to know the unique needs of children from these backgrounds. Third, it is important to be aware of the historical and current context in which Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders live (Ryder et al., 2022). It is important to respect the different cultures and traditions of Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders because they are unique and have a long history.  In addition, it is important to remember that Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders have a unique culture and history. This means that they may have different needs and perspectives than other Australians. By being culturally sensitive, service providers can better understand and meet the needs of Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders (Ryder et al., 2022). They have a special relationship with the land and its resources. This should be respected when working with these communities. All of these factors need to be respected when working with members of these groups. Knowing the unique needs of children from Aboriginal Australian and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds is also important. Children from these groups may have experienced trauma, such as the loss of family members or forced separation from their communities. They may also have difficulty adjusting to life in mainstream society. As a result, they may need extra support and understanding. Practitioners Intervention Practitioners can provide clients with information and resources that can help them to better understand and cope with their situation. This might include providing information about the nature of the problem, its potential causes, and available treatment options. It can also be helpful to provide clients with practical resources such as contact information for support services, self-help materials, or referrals to other professionals (Alexander et al., 2022). Practitioners can also help clients to develop skills and strategies for dealing with their problems. This might involve teaching relaxation or stress management techniques, providing problem-solving training, or helping clients to develop coping mechanisms for dealing with difficult emotions. It can also be helpful to provide clients with opportunities to practice these skills in a safe and supportive environment (Barker & Taylor, 2022). Finally, it is also important to provide clients with emotional support. This might involve active listening, offering encouragement and reassurance, and providing a nonjudgmental and empathetic space for clients to express their thoughts and feelings. It can also be helpful to foster a sense of hope and optimism and help clients develop a support network of family, friends, or other professionals. Social Work Intervention The Department of Community and Justice (DCJ) in Australia has a long history of social work practice. The agency strongly focuses on community development and social justice and has a well-established reputation for providing high-quality services to vulnerable populations (Barker & Taylor, 2022). DCJ staff are highly skilled and experienced in working with many clients, including those with complex needs. The agency has a strong commitment to social inclusion and equity and works collaboratively with a range of partners to achieve its goals. DCJ has an excellent track record in developing and delivering innovative social work programs and services and is highly regarded by its peers (Alexander et al., 2022). The DCJ also offers various services, including counseling, case management, and advocacy which are mainly aimed at improving the quality of social work practices.
