Overview: The final project for this course is the creation of a proposal for an organizational design that both supports and empowers women in leadership. Throughout the course, students will examine the historical aspects of women in leadership; contemporary examples of women leaders and their management, leadership, and communication styles; and characteristics that are common among women leaders. Students will be examining personal and organizational characteristics of successful women leaders and using this examination to devise a model of organizational design and culture that supports women in leadership. The project is divided into four milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules Four, Eight, Nine, and Ten.

Outcomes: To successfully complete this project, you will be expected to apply what you have learned in this course and should include several of the following course outcomes:

• Identify the unique challenges, constraints, and opportunities that women face as they ascend to leadership positions

• Understand women in leadership from a historical perspective

• Understand and communicate effectively about roles as an entrepreneurs and chief executives

• Describe how societies advance by advancing women

Milestone 1: Contemporary Analysis in Module Four, you will submit an essay (2–4 pages) on your analysis of the current issues related to women in leadership, including issues such as wage disparity, dominance of men as leaders in some industries, and the stereotypical and behavioral expectations of women leaders. Include a brief historical analysis and application to your organization. This milestone will be graded separately using the Short Paper Rubric.

Milestone 2: Proposal First Draft in Module Eight, you will submit the first draft (4–6 pages) of a proposal of an organizational design and culture that supports women in leadership based on the findings from course learning, which will include the following:

a. Description of the design

b. Graphical representation of the design

c. Cultural elements

d. Rationale for including the supporting elements for the design

You will incorporate your reflection and analysis from the weekly journal assignments you completed throughout the course into this proposal. You will find guidance on creating an organizational design in the Module Eight resources. This milestone will be graded separately using the Proposal Rubric (below).

Milestone 3: Application in Module Nine, you will submit a detailed analysis (2–4 pages) of how your current organization would be impacted if your proposed design was implemented there. You will incorporate your reflection and analysis from the weekly journal assignments into this section. This milestone will be graded separately using the Short Paper Rubric.

Milestone 4: Proposal Final Draft in Module Ten, you will revise your first draft of Milestone 2 based on the feedback from your instructor and submit it as a final draft (5–7 pages). This milestone will be graded separately using the Proposal Rubric (below).
