Respond to a peer and provide them with at least two tips for how they can promote healthy parenting practices across cultural groups to support families from different cultural backgrounds.

Discuss three general findings in the research brief about cultural parenting patterns.

Some of the findings from the research brief about cultural parenting patterns are that the cultural groups were divided even further than their races. White and African-Americans were divided by income, and Asian-Americans, and Hispanic Americans are divided by their country of origin, according to the Promoting Healthy Parenting Practices Across Cultural Groups: A CDC Research Brief (2008). Almost all the cultures viewed bad and good behavior of their children in the same way according to the study as well. They also all agreed that talking to their children first was the best plan of action when disciplining.

Explain, using Table 1 on page 8 of the research brief, three different cultural patterns regarding what parents consider to be good behavior among children.

The different cultural patterns regarding good behavior among their children consider are, getting along with other children to be important, respecting their elders, and being honest. All of the cultures on the table on page 8 have similar expectations and ways they expect their children to behave.

Explain, using Table 1 on page 9 of the research brief, three different cultural patterns regarding what parents consider to be bad behavior among children.

Most of the cultural backgrounds that are on the table agree that being disrespectful and talking back is considered bad behavior. African-Americans seem to be lenient in a lot of the categories according to the chart. Also tattling, gossiping and being nosey don’t seem to viewed as bad behavior by any of the cultures.

Evaluate the information you have gained and answer the question, “How much of how we parent is dictated by our culture?

I believe that most of the way we parent is dictated by our culture. We learn what we live, and we usually end up parenting the way we were parented. There are a lot of other factors that affect the way we parent our children, our income, our education, and how we handle, and approach situations.
