Prompt #1: Compare one literary text from the Reformation to a literary text from the Renaissance with particular emphasis on how the literature of each time period reflects the society and culture. Be sure to articulate the main similarities/differences and prevalent literary techniques each author uses in the texts you’ve selected from each literary movement.
You may choose to present your ideas in the form of a slideshow presentation or as a traditional essay. Read the rubrics carefully in advance (see attachments) so you’ll be familiar with the requirements and expectations.
Presentation: Your presentation should include a comparison of two key literary works (one from the Renaissance and one from the Reformation). You will need to analyze the author’s literary techniques as well as how your chosen texts reflect the society and culture of the time period. Be sure to justify your choices as to why that particular work and author is significant. Support your justification with text evidence and outside quotes from academic sources. Presentation options: Prezi, Swipe, Sway, or PowerPoint. 15 slide minimum.
Essay: Your comparison/contrast essay should be a minimum of 500 words and should provide analysis of the author’s literary techniques as well as how your chosen texts reflect the society and culture of the time period. Remember to include one selection from the Renaissance and one from the Reformation. Justification should be provided in the form of text evidence and research from academic sources.
Prompt #2: Choose either Macbeth, Sir Gawain, or Beowulf to address the following question. What modern values and/or universal themes are evident in the character? What does this tell us about how literature reflects society, culture, place, and/or history?
You may choose to address this prompt in a 400-500 word essay or a 15 slide min. presentation (Prezi, Swipe, Sway, or Powerpoint). Be sure to justify your thoughts with text evidence and research from academic sources. The presentation should contain effective visual components that complement and support your analysis.
